The St Christopher’s Goldsmith dinner allows our firm to give back to the community
During the season of giving, the St Christopher’s Goldsmith dinner is an event that allows our firm to give back and benefit others.
On 17 November 2022 the annual charity dinner took place at Goldsmith’s Hall and was attended by our managing director Alex Gibson-Watt, our directors Paula Steele and Ken Maxwell, and one of our advisory brokers, Jonathan Morris.
As with the past few editions, John Lamb Hill Oldridge has provided financial support as one of the key sponsors of the event.
The annual dinner raises awareness of the essential work that St Christopher’s Hospice do, not only providing world leading hospice care, but also promoting awareness of the hospice.
The charity costs £22.6 million each year to run and their operational budget is reliant on raising £15 million each year through fundraising. St Christopher’s income breakdown is detailed by the graph below:

St Christopher’s was awarded the prestigious Conrad Hilton Humanitarian Prize in 2001 and is one of the world’s largest providers of palliative care education — providing vital resources for ongoing research and projects aimed at improving patient care.
Last year the charity provided free healthcare and support for 4,675 patients and made 13,124 home visits.
The St Christopher’s Goldsmith dinner has helped raise millions for the charity since it was first held back in 2000. It is traditionally attended by around 200 members of the legal and financial services professions.
We are immensely proud of our continuing work alongside the charity.

2022 has seen our team regularly voice our expertise within industry publications
Our team have been especially active over the course of 2022 to ensure John Lamb Hill Oldridge remains a prominent voice for industry leadership and insights across trade publications.
Back in April, our director Ken Maxwell, wrote an article for COVER magazine about the obstacles that come with writing life insurance for high net worth (HNW) individuals. He highlighted how the traditional life insurance application process can be long and time-consuming and, in the case of a client seeking £20 million worth of cover, how bespoke and specialist advice can be hugely beneficial for helping clients navigate their journey.
Ken had a prolific April on the PR front as he also wrote an article for the Month magazine, sharing his thoughts on how insurance is a simple, cost-effective solution for Inheritance Tax (IHT) planning. His article outlined how insurance can affect areas such as gifting and liabilities and can be very beneficial for clients with large estates.

In July, Holly Hill wrote for COVER magazine about the effects of divorce on insurance arrangements and how proper understanding of policies can benefit clients’ emotional wellbeing. We expanded on her initial insights in an associated article on our website.

In November, Holly wrote another article, this time for IFA magazine, exploring how life insurance can be a cost-effective strategy for protecting wealth in estate planning for HNW clients. The right advice can save clients from potential IHT liabilities that run into the millions.
Not to be outdone, another of our advisory brokers, Jonathan Morris, wrote for the Professional Adviser in November about the importance of income protection policies especially considering global events over the past few years.
